What is ETIAS?

ETIAS stands for "European Travel Information and Authorization System." It is an electronic travel authorization that is being developed by the European Union (EU) to enhance security and better manage migration flows entering the Schengen Area, compromised of 30 countries. Frontex, the European border and coast guard agency, stated in 2021 that it estimated 1.4 billion people will need to apply for an ETIAS before traveling to Europe when the policy comes into effect.

Which nationalities are eligible for ETIAS?

There are currently 59 announced nationalities that are eligible for ETIAS. They are listed below.

Which countries are a part of the Schengen Area?

Travellers entering the Schengen Area will require an ETIAS. The Schegen Area includes the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.

When will ETIAS be live?

The system is expected to be live in 2025. The exact date is pending an official announcement.

How much will the convenience fee be?

The government fee was announced recently at 7 euros. Based on this data, the convenience fee will be $5 to $10. The convenience fee will cover the following: 

  • Simplified visa process for various travel plans, encompassing solo, group, single-destination, and/or multi-destination trips.
  • Access to our customer service team that provides personalized assistance for visa requirements and inquiries.
  • Qualify for service fee refunds and waiver for reapplications.
How long will the processing time be?

According to official sources, the application should take no more than a few minutes to process.

Who will not need to apply for ETIAS?
  • Family members of EU Citizens or of non-EU nationals who have the right to move freely throughout the EU.
  • Nationalities from countries that require other types of visas for the Schengen area
How do carriers register for ETIAS?

Carriers have to register with EU LISA to participate in ETIAS using the F01 Carrier Registration Form.
